An Open, Multiple-dose Analgesic Effect and Safety Study of Ketorolac Tromethamine (30mg) Administered Intramuscularly in Patients with Pain. Following Orthopaedic Surgery

Abstract
Ketorolac tromethamine (a non-narcotic prostaglandin synthesis inhibiting analgesic) was administered intramuscularly in patients with pain following orthopaedic surgery. 30 patients participated in this study. They were received ketorolac tromethamine 150mg intramuscularly for one day. The initial dose of intramuscular ketorolac tromethamine was 60mg and then 30mg was injected with 6 hours interval as a maintenance dose within 24 hours after surgery. Patients and doctor evaluated pain intensity and pain relief using verbal category.
The results were as follows;
1. Severity of pain before medication was moderate in 26.6%, severe in 40% and very severe in 33.4% of the patients.
2. 93.3% of patients had a pain relief response rate of a lot or complete at 2 hours after treatment, 96.6% at 6 hours after treatment and 70% at 24 hours after treatment.
3. Physician¢¥s global evaluation was more than good in 96.9%
4. Two patient have experienced side effects such as nausea and headache. These symptoms were mild and recovered spontaneously.
Conclusion; The administration of intramuscular ketorolac tromethamine with 6 hours interval had excellent effect for relief and few side effects in patients with pain following orthopedic surgery.
